Challenges to Strategic Stability in Southern Asia

MissilesSouthern Asia is undergoing a significant transformation in the strategic force postures of its principal states. In China and India, the growth of nuclear capabilities is accompanied by the development of ballistic missile defense systems; and in Pakistan, this growth is occurring against a backdrop of domestic crises and rising radicalization. These developments raise pressing questions about the future of deterrence stability and the security relationships among these countries.

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and the National Institute for Public Policy hosted a half-day meeting to examine these challenges and their implications for the United States.
